I currently work with acrylic paints as my main medium because of the flexibility they allow. While they do dry quickly, acrylics can be combined with slow drying mediums to extend work time. Acrylics can be thinned to look like watercolor or used full bodied to resemble oils. When I use acrylics like watercolor, I allow the lines of the under painting to show through as well as any unexpected splatters. I do this to as a reminder that life isn't perfect and that there is beauty in imperfection.

Various subjects are explored in my work. In my nature pieces, I like to explore the shapes and colors of flowers. Pets are a fun subject matter because of what they mean to those who have them. The dog portraits with halos were created as gifts to friends who lost their beloved pets. The beatification of them is a nod to their passing along with titles reflecting one of their beloved characteristics. My dessert paintings are a tribute to favorite sweet treats. As someone with food allergies and sugar sensitivities, it is a way to visually appreciate the beauty of these treats without any deleterious effects or sugar crash.
